Tides

ABOUT THE TIDES

Ahhh the tides!  Did you come here to learn about the science behind the tides, read a poem,or listen to a symphony about them?

That would all be wonderful, but no, here's just a bit about how they work and affect you in a practical sense, as a guest of Commodore 11.

SCIENCE ALERT!  The moon and sun They come in (high tide) and go out (low tide), roughly twice every 24 hours. Twice a month, when the moon and sun are aligned and on the same side of the earth, the lows are lower and the highs are higher

Sometimes the high tides cover the BLUE parking lot. Several times a year, the KING (highest) tides cause the highway on and off ramps to close. We will contact you if your stay includes a KING tide. Mostly the tide is no cause for concern (except during the rainy season, when extra water in the Bay raises the tide.)

Check the approximate height of the tide at Commodore 11 here, or if you have an iPhone, install the app Tide Alert, start the free trial period, and change settings to use the Sausalito, Coe Dock, S.F. Bay tide station (it's a GREAT app)
